A woman has been charged with murder over a fatal stabbing at Loxton in the Riverland.

Police and ambulance crews were called to a house in Aleppo Street on Wednesday morning.

A 48-year-old man with a stab wound was treated, then flown to the Royal Adelaide Hospital in a critical condition.

He died in hospital on Wednesday night.

In Berri Magistrates Court, police alleged Amanda Jayne Smith, 26, stabbed the victim Ashleigh Kym Cooke, 48, at their home.

The woman did not apply for bail and was remanded in custody.

Police also questioned a 41-year-old man about the death but no charge was laid against him.
