A Canberra General Practitioner (GP) has been released from jail, after being granted bail on a charge of committing an act of indecency on one of his patients on Anzac Day.
The ACT Magistrates Court has heard Dr Ammar Dhaimat, 39, inappropriately touched a female patient during a consultation at the Belconnen Medical Centre.
The prosecution told the court that Dr Dhaimat was a flight risk because he had fled the UK whilst on bail after being suspected of carrying out a similar offence at the Chesterfield Royal Hospital in Derbyshire in the English Midlands.
Police told Magistrate Bernadette Boss that two other complaints against the doctor from patients at the medical centre are being investigated.
Magistrate Boss granted bail on strict conditions, including that he surrender his two passports, that he and a friend each deposit a $10,000 cash surety, and that he not approach any of his current or former patients.
The case returns to court in July.
