A community group opposed to coal developments on the mouth of the Fitzroy River in central Queensland says the Federal Government appears to have ignored advice from the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority (GBRMPA).
Ginny Gerlach from the Keppel and Fitzroy Delta Alliance says GBRMPA warned of risks of the Fitzroy Terminal project in a letter to the Department of Sustainability, Environment and Water.
Ms Gerlach says the letter outlined unacceptable impacts on the Fitzroy Delta.
"The impacts that it would have to various endangered species, birds, turtles and the snubfin dolphin," she said.
"Also, the activity of transferring coal from barges to ships within the Great Barrier Reef general use zone is actually not a permitted activity, so it would require legal changes."
