TRAVELERS, TAKE HEART.

FOLLOWING HOURS OF CLOSED-DOOR NEGOTIATIONS, THE SENATE HAS PASSED LEGISLATION TO PUT AN END TO FURLOUGHS FOR AIR TRAFFIC CONTROLLERS.

IT'S AN ISSUE THAT'S BEEN CAUSING HEADACHES FOR TRAVELERS AT AIRPORTS ACROSS THE U.S

THE SENATE LEGISLATION GIVES THE F-A-A AUTHORITY TO TRANSFER MORE THAN 250 MILLION DOLLARS FROM ACCOUNTS THAT ARE FLUSH -- INTO PROGRAMS TO KEEP CONTROLLERS ON THE JOB THROUGH SEPTEMBER 30TH -- THE END OF THE FISCAL YEAR.

AND SENATE OFFICIAL SAY THERE ARE ADEQUATE FUNDS TO PREVENT SMALL AIRPORT TOWERS AROUND THE U-S FROM CLOSING.

THERE WAS NO IMMEDIATE REACTION FROM THE WHITE HOSUSE -- BUT ADMISTRATION OFFICIALS PARTICIPATED IN THE NEGOTIATIONS THAT LED TO THE DEAL.

A HOUSE VOTE ON THE MATTER COULD COME AS EARLY AS FRIDAY.

ROSS SIMPSON, THE ASSOCIATED PRESS.
