Notorious serial sex offender Robert John Fardon will remain behind bars after the Queensland government won its bid to fight his release.
Fardon, who has spent most of his adult life in jail, was to have been released in February after Brisbane Supreme Court Justice Debbie Mullins ruled any risks to the community could be managed.
She imposed 34 conditions on his release, but her reasoning did not convince Attorney-General Jarrod Bleijie, who lodged an appeal against the release of the 64-year-old rapist.
Lawyers for Mr Bleijie won an immediate stay to keep Fardon behind bars until the full appeal could be heard.
The matter was argued before the full Court of Appeal last month and it decided on Thursday to allow the appeal.
