Foreign Minister Bob Carr says Australia is still waiting for Israel to respond to its request for more information about the circumstances leading up to the death of dual citizen Ben Zygier.
Speaking in Washington, Senator Carr said the government's dialogue with Israel was continuing.
"I'm not aware that there has been a comprehensive accounting for what has happened," he told ABC radio on Tuesday.
"What gave rise to his arrest, his detention, his suicide?"
Melbourne-born Mr Zygier was earlier this year revealed as the man known as Prisoner X - a former Mossad agent - detained in an Israeli jail.
Mr Zygier was found dead in his cell in 2010.
"We have asked them for all information relevant to Australia on this, and we will continue to do that," Senator Carr said.
There are unconfirmed claims Mr Zygier was jailed for passing secrets to the militant Hezbollah in Lebanon.
