The State Emergency Service is gearing up for the possibility of flash flooding in Tasmania's north.

A flood watch is current for all northern river basins, as is a road weather alert and a severe weather warning.

Police have attended at least four minor car crashes in the north of the state during this morning's downpour, but no-one has been injured.

The SES' Mhairi Revie says there is more bad weather on the way and some towns need to prepare for the possibility of flooding.

"At this point in time I would say towns such as Cressy and Scottsdale, those sorts of areas for us in the north I'd be looking to," she said.

"So if I was in that area, I'd be making sure that that my gutters were nice and clear so that the gutters can cope with additional rain flows."
