HACKERS ARE SUSPECTED OF LAUNCHING A MAJOR COMPUTER ATTACK IN SOUTH KOREA.

COMPUTER SYSTEMS AT THE COUNTRY'S TOP THREE BROADCASTERS AND TWO MAJOR BANKS ALL CRASHED AT ONCE ON WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON.

SCREENS WENT BLANK PROMPTLY AT TWO P-M LOCAL TIME.

THERE ARE REPORTS THAT PICTURES OF SKULLS APPEARED ON SOME OF THE SCREENS.

OFFICIAL STATEMENTS SAY THE CAUSE OF THE COMPUTER CRASH IS NOT IMMEDIATELY CLEAR.

HOWEVER, WIDESPREAD SPECULATION HAS FOCUSED ON NORTH KOREA, WHICH HAS VOWED TO TAKE REVENGE FOR ECONOMIC SANCTIONS.

SOME OF THE COMPUTER SYSTEMS STARTED FUNCTIONING AGAIN AFTER A FEW HOURS.
