A north Queensland man has been sentenced to 15 months in prison after pleading guilty to accessing and possessing thousand of images of child pornography.
Officers searched his property in Mackay and seized an encrypted laptop and hard drive, which contained more than 3,700 images and videos.
Hundreds were deemed to be in the most serious category of child pornography.
Hornof was charged with knowingly possessing child exploitation material and use of a carriage service to access child pornography.
His defence told the court Hornof viewed the images out of curiosity and did not pay for or distribute them.
In sentencing, Judge John Baulch said the fact Hornof accessed the images over a 14-month period showed the viewing was not opportunistic and described it as a "significant collection".
Hornof was sentenced to 15 months in jail, but will be released after serving four months.
