Police are investigating a stabbing at Surfers Paradise on Queensland's Gold Coast.

Officers say a 40-year-old man was stabbed in the torso after an altercation with a couple outside a hotel about 9:00pm (AEST).

He was taken to the Gold Coast Hospital in a stable condition.

A man and a woman, both 26, have since been charged with unlawful wounding and are due to appear in court today.

Meanwhile, police are questioning a 27-year-old man about the theft of a taxi at Surfers Paradise.

A number of people pushed the cab from side-to-side as the driver picked up passengers last night.

He got out to investigate and the taxi was driven away.

It was found a few streets away with damage to its front.

Police say it may have damaged a number of parked vehicles before it was found.
