Flares guide rescue team

Rocket flares were used to guide a helicopter crew to an injured bushwalker and a rescue crew who were stranded in Tasmania's wilderness overnight.

A man, aged in his 60's, injured his leg yesterday in the Ironbound Range, around 100 kilometres south-west of Hobart.

A search and rescue team were forced to spend the night with him after severe weather hampered evacuation efforts last night.

They were winched to safety at first light this morning.

The man is in a stable condition in the Royal Hobart Hospital.
