A man accused of murdering a Macleay Island grandmother has had his case adjourned for three months by a Brisbane magistrate.

Steven Mark John Fennell sat quietly with his arms folded for his first appearance in Brisbane's Magistrates Court.

His solicitor Michael Gatenby requested an adjournment to enable a complete brief of evidence to be prepared.

He told the court police had 300 statements and many telephone intercepts.

Outside court, he said Mr Fennell would defend the charges.

"He's obviously disappointed that he's been charged but at the same time he sees it as an opportunity to clear his name," he said.

"There's just been a heap of innuendo floating around on the island.

"Finally he gets to clear his name and he's looking forward to that. "

Fennell is due back in court on July 22.
