The Local Government Association of Queensland (LGAQ) says the State Government should help pay for repairs to eroded Gold Coast beaches.

Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate is aiming to have all 27 beaches open by Easter, but Queensland Tourism Minister Jann Stuckey has ruled out a State Government contribution.

LGAQ president Margaret de Wit says the council needs assistance.

"They need some support from State, maybe Federal Government, to assist in that task because the erosion problems down there now are so great," she said.

"They do need assistance to get those beaches back into some sort of order so the tourists will return and return in great numbers."
