A woman accused of the attempted murder of her former partner in north Canberra has been released from jail.

Louise Bai, 56, allegedly shot the man with a rifle as he was standing up from the toilet at her McKellar home in February.

The victim had only been in Australia for three days when the incident happened.

Police say Bai told her victim that she wanted to kill herself as well.

She has pleaded not guilty to the charge of attempted murder.

Bai has been held in custody for the past 22 days.

Her first application for bail was denied on the grounds that she would interfere with witnesses.

But in the ACT Magistrates Court on Thursday both parties agreed to let her back into the community on a number of conditions, including that her brother pay a $50,000 surety and that she not leave the ACT.

Bai waved and blew kisses at waiting cameras as she left the court.

She is expected to return to court next week.
