Calmer conditions today are allowing crews direct access to the fire which is no longer threatening properties.
The Fire Service's Phil Douglas says water bombing helicopters are helping to douse the fire's southern edge.
"It is slow going but we're not expecting that fire to do a run today at all," he said.
Residents can expect to see smoke and should remain vigilant.
Further south, crews are working to contain a house fire at Primrose Sands.
One person has been treated for minor burns.
The danger to properties from a large bushfire burning on the west coast has passed.
The Pieman Head blaze has burnt 550 hectares
TFS spokesman David Homan says overnight rain helped crews.
"Currently, the fire is burning away from the Pieman Head shack community," he said.
"Parks and Wildlife Service and the Forestry Tasmania crews are working at blacking out the northern and southern flanks with helicopter support."
