The father of a mentally-ill man who murdered three people in Adelaide will not contest one of the firearms charges laid against him.

Giuseppe Corbo, 71, is charged with failing to store his firearms and ammunition securely.

Corbo's lawyers told Adelaide Magistrates Court he had stored his guns properly before his son Donato, 40, used them to shoot dead three people at Hectorville in 2011, while the father was away on a hunting trip.

The lawyers said the man would not contest one of the charges relating to the ammunition because Corbo had forgotten to remove it from a clothing pocket and his wife put it away in a drawer.
