Fire destroys plane at Archerfield airport

An early morning fire has destroyed a small plane and damaged two others at Archerfield airport in Brisbane.

Police say the blaze broke out in a hangar just before 2:00am (AEST).

Fire officer Owen George says flammable material posed a problem for crews.

"Due to the contents, in terms of magnesium etc in the aircraft, it was difficult to do final extinguishment," he said.

"But with the final application of foam, the fire eventually went out."
