BMW is recalling almost 570,000 cars in the U.S. and Canada because a battery cable connector can fail and cause the engines to stall. The recall affects popular 3-Series sedans, wagons, convertibles and coupes from the 2007 through 2011 model years. Also included are 1-Series coupes and convertibles from 2008 through 2012, and the Z4 sports car from 2009 through 2011. (AP Photo/BMW)

News Summary: Ford recalls older minivans

Published: 08:05:39 PM, Thu 07 March 2013 UTC

THE RECALL: Ford is recalling 230,000 minivans in 20 cold-weather states, Washington, D.C., and Canada to fix rust problems that can cause the third-row seats to come loose. Affected are the Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey from the 2004 through 2007 model years.

THE PROBLEM: Water loaded with road salt can get into the underside, causing rust that can weaken the mounting brackets to which the seats are attached.

THE SOLUTION: Dealers will install new seat mounting brackets, placing them outside of the area that can rust. They'll also put in panels above the rear wheels to prevent water from entering.
