The Department of Corrective Services is investigating the death of a 20-year-old Aboriginal prisoner in Casuarina Prison.
The man, who will only be identified as Mr Bennell for cultural reasons, was found in his cell yesterday afternoon.
Attempts to resuscitate him by prison staff were unsuccessful.
A coronial inquiry will be conducted to determine the cause of death.
