PM urged to intervene on VC decision
The family and supporters of a Tasmanian WWII hero denied a posthumous
Victoria Cross wants the Prime Minister to ignore a defence tribunal decision.
Last week the Defence Awards and Appeals Tribunal announced ordinary seaman Teddy Sheean and 12 other sailors and soldiers would not be awarded retrospective Victoria Crosses.
The 18-year-old from Latrobe continued to fire on the enemy as HMAS Armidale sank in the Timor Sea in 1942, until he went down with the ship.
Guy Barnett is a supporter of the push to award Teddy Sheean a VC and says the family wants the Prime Minister to make her own determination.
"Rather than determining if the 13 Australians under consideration for a Victoria Cross, or another bravery award were deserving, the tribunal imposed a higher burden of proof, including maladministration," Mr Barnett said.
