Valuable paintings have been stolen from a house in Adelaide's western suburbs, including an original canvas by French impressionist Pierre-Auguste Renoir.

Police said thieves forced their way through the front door of the home at Brooklyn Park some time between 1:30-3:00pm ACDT on Wednesday.

Six works valued at tens of thousands of dollars were stolen.
