A 23-year-old Wembley Downs man has been charged in connection to an assault that left another man in a critical condition in hospital.

Police say the man became involved in an altercation with the victim, also 23, in Northbridge.

The altercation occurred some time after 3:00 am on Saturday outside a night club, when the victim was punched twice in the face.

The victim fell backwards hitting his head on the pavement.

He remains in Royal Perth Hospital in a critical condition.

The alleged offender has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm and will face the Perth Magistrates Court tomorrow.
