SCRIPT:

12 FORMER MEMBERS OF THE FLORIDA A-AND-M MARCHING BAND ARE NOW FACING SECOND-DEGREE MANSLAUGHTER CHARGES.

THE CHARGES STEM FROM THE 20-11 DEATH OF DRUM MAJOR ROBERT CHAMPION.

CHAMPION COLLAPSED AND DIED AFTER WHAT PROSECUTORS DESCRIBE AS A SAVAGE BEATING DURING A HAZING RITUAL.

HE DIED OF INTERNAL BLEEDING, AFTER HE WAS FOUND COVERED WITH BRUISES, UNRESPONSIVE AND VOMITING ON BOARD A BAND BUS.

PROSECUTORS ORIGINALLY FILED FELONY HAZING CHARGES AGAINST TEN OF THE BAND MEMBERS.

THE NEW MANSLAUGHTER CHARGES ARE AGAINST THOSE TEN PEOPLE, PLUS TWO OTHERS WHO WERE NOT PREVIOUSLY CHARGED.

A SECOND-DEGREE MANSLAUGHTER CONVICTION IN FLORIDA COULD LEAD TO 15 YEARS IN PRISON.
