A WEEKEND CRASH THAT CLAIMED THE LIVES OF TWO ORTHODOX JEWS, WHO WERE EXPECTANT PARENTS -- HAD ALREADY PLUNGED THIS CLOSE-KNIT JEWISH NEIGHBORHOOD INTO GRIEF.

BUT MONDAY'S NEWS THAT THEIR BABY -- WHO WAS BORN BY EMERGENCY CESARIAN SECTION SHORTLY AFTER THE CRASH --- ONLY COMPOUNDED THEIR GRIEF..

POLICE HAVE A SUSPECT IN THE HIT AND RUN.

HE'S BEEN IDENTIFIED AS JULIO ACEVEDO (HOO-lee-oh) (ahs-suh-VAY-doh).

THEY SAY HE WAS DRIVING THIS BMW APPROXIMATELY SIXTY MILES PER HOUR DOWN A RESIDENTIAL STREET WHEN THE ACCIDENT OCCURRED -- THROWING THE EXPECTANT MOTHER -- RAIZY GLAUBER (RAY'-zee GLOW'-bur) OUT OF THE CAR SHE WAS RIDING IN..... AND PINNING HER HUSBAND INSIDE THE VEHICLE.

SOUNDBITE: Sarah Gluck / Victim's Cousin

"two amazing people......two lovely people.....we lost two lovely people"

ABOUT 1000 PEOPLE TURNED OUT TO REMEMBER THE COUPLE.

AND THE'RE FURIOUS WITH ACEVEDO -- WHO POLICE SAY NOT ONLY FLED THE SCENE BUT WAS ARRESTED A MONTH AGO ON A D-U-I CHARGE -- AFTER SERVING ABOUT A DECADE IN PRISON FOR MANSLAUGHTER IN THE 1990'S.

SOUNDBITE: Isaac Abraham / Hasidic Jewish Community Spokesman

"give youself up....make the pain a little easier....and so at least we'll know you're not a coward."

THE VEHICLE THE COUPLE WAS RIDING IN WAS A LIVERY CAB -- BUT AUTHORITIES NOW SAY THE APPLICATION TO USE IT AS A LIVERY CAB -- HADN'T BEEN APPROVED.
