Prisons return to normal as strike ends

West Australian prison officers have returned to work after their 24 hour strike.

Government run jails across the state went into lockdown on Friday morning after almost 2000 prison officers walked off the job.

They are angry they have only been offered a 9 per cent payrise over three years from the State Government.

They want 14 per cent over the same period.

The Prison Officers Union and the Department of Corrective Services spent yesterday afternoon in talks with the Industrial Relations Commission which recommended the strike end as soon as possible.

The union says officers began returning to work this morning as planned and its members will consider whether to take further action.
