Lounge lands NSW woman in hospital

A woman is in hospital with spinal injuries after a couch landed on her at a hotel in Tamworth.

The woman was on the ground floor of the hotel in Brisbane Street, Tamworth, about 10pm (AEDT) on Friday when a two-seater lounge was allegedly thrown over the first-floor railing.

The lounge hit the woman after falling about seven metres.

The 43-year-old local woman was taken to Tamworth Base Hospital with serious spinal injuries before being airlifted to John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle.

A 32-year-old man from Ballina, in northern NSW, and a 27-year-old Queensland man were arrested at another hotel nearby.

Both men have been charged with recklessly cause grievous bodily harm in company and assault occasioning grievous bodily harm.

The two men spent the night behind bars and are due to appear in Tamworth Local Court on Saturday.
