Peel whistleblower appears in Perth court

Peel Health Campus whistleblower Ashton Foley has told the Perth Magistrate's Court she intends to fight a charge of extortion.

It is alleged Ms Foley, who appeared in court today as Michelle Marie Foley, threatened to release hospital documents to the media unless paid $43,000 by its operator Health Solutions WA.

When asked by the magistrate if she would be defending the charge, Ms Foley replied 'absolutely.'

As the former Chief Operating Officer of the hospital Ms Foley was a key witness during a parliamentary inquiry into fraud and corruption at the privately run and publicly funded facility.

The court heard Ms Foley had already surrendered her passport and must report to the Bairnsdale Police in Victoria three times a week.

She will also have to tell police whenever she enters or leaves WA.

The matter was adjourned until May for a committal hearing.
