NT Country Liberals pass confidence vote in leader

The Chief Minister is calling on Country Liberal MPs to focus their energy on policy after his leadership was endorsed by rank and file members.

Terry Mills has survived a week of internal speculation over his suitability for Territory's top job.

After a botched party room coup last Monday, rank and file party members passed a confidence motion in his leadership at a meeting in Tennant Creek yesterday.

It's emboldened the Chief Minister and he's calling on his colleagues to get back to the job of addressing the issues facing the territory.

"We need the full support of a party to deal with those challenges," he said.

The Chief Minister says party members' support for his leadership is an endorsement of the Country Liberals government's policies.

"Undoubtedly there are challenges for the new government facing up to the dreadful problems we've been presented by the outgoing Labor Government," he said.

"But as a cabinet we are working on it.

"And to have that endorsement is a strong message."

The Chief Minister has also accused the media of spreading misinformation and firmly stated his support for the Territory Speaker.

He says media reports suggesting Kezia Purick had lost his support were wrong.

"Once again there has been blatant and brazen misinformation in the NT News in particular," he said.

"It's completely untrue, she has my support, not a problem."
