Australian cyclist Tiffany Cromwell has claimed her first classics victory, outsprinting American Megan Guarnier to win the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad in Belgium.

With two former winners as Orica-AIS teammates, Cromwell was part of a three-pronged attack.

"It's a fantastic team effort," said Cromwell.

"Any one of us could take the win today. As always, we supported each other, and I was happy to finish off the job."

Orica-AIS sport director Dave McPartland was ecstatic with the win.

"I'm just really happy with how they race. They're stepping it up as a team," he said.

"It was impressive to see that they remained calm and focused as we got closer to the finish."

Cromwell forced Guarnier to the front in the last kilometre and then came around the Rabobank rider to open up the sprint.

"I started sprinting with 300 metres," Cromwell said.

"Megan didn't contest the sprint. I don't think she had anything left."

Emma Johansson won the bunch sprint to take third, giving Orica-AIS two riders on the podium in Ghent.

Johansson is a two-time former Omloop Het Nieuwsblad winner.
