Victorian Opera has a new chairperson.

Corporate figure Jane Hemstritch will take over the reins from retiring chairman Graeme Willersdorf, Premier Ted Baillieu has announced.

Ms Hemstritch, a former managing director of Asia Pacific for Accenture Ltd, has come from a career that includes financial services, telecommunications, government, energy and manufacturing.

Mr Baillieu said Ms Hemstritch's determination in her career was matched by her love for opera.

"She comes to the role at an exciting time for a company entering the next chapter of its life under new artistic director Richard Mills," he said.

Ms Hemstritch sits on the board of a number of top ASX listed companies and has been a part of Victorian Opera's board of directors since 2010.
