DAY THREE OF OSCAR PISTORIUS' BAIL HEARING IS BRINGING MORE BIZARRE TWISTS AND TURNS.

POLICE REVEALED THRUSDAY THAT THE LEAD INVESTIGATOR IN THE CASE, DETECTIVE HILTON BOTHA, IS FACING ATTEMPTED MURDER CHARGES.

POLICE SAY THE CHARGES AGAINST THE DETECTIVE INVOLVE A 2011 INCIDENT WHEN BOTHA AND TWO OTHER POLICE OFFICERS FIRED AT A MINIBUS THEY WERE TRYING TO STOP.

PROSECUTORS SAY THEY WERE UNAWARE OF THE CHARGES AGAINST BOTHA, WHEN THEY PUT HIIM ON THE STAND TO EXPLAIN WHY THE OLYMPIC SPRINTER SHOULD NOT BE GIVEN BAIL.

BOTHA WAS SEEN AS HARMING THE PROSECUTORS CASE, WHEN HE SAID NOTHING IN PISTORIUS' ACCOUNT OF WHAT HAPPENED WHEN REEVA STEENKAMP WAS SHOT CONTRADICTED THE POLICE VERSION OF EVENTS.

PISTORIUS GOT A VOTE OF CONFIDENCE ON THURSDAY FROM HIS COACH.

SOUNDBITE: AMPIE LOUW, OSCAR PISTORIUS' COACH

I said in my statement, they can see it on the website. And I am confident, I've known the guy for all the years and I still stick to my statement as seen on the website."

TRACK-2
