Federal Opposition Leader Tony Abbott has pledged to cut 12,000 jobs from the Commonwealth public service if he wins government in September.
But Mr Seselja has told a Legislative Assembly committee only a third of those jobs would be cut in Canberra.
"I think we need to be clear, I don't think anyone would argue that any jobs losses in Canberra is a good thing, but I don't think we should overstate what those are either," he said.
"When you talk about 12,000 by natural attrition you know that that's across the entire public sector around the nation.
"So I think it's important isn't it, if you want to breed confidence, that at least accuracy is important."
"Two-thirds of all public service jobs are actually outside Canberra," he said.
"Naturally if you take a natural attrition approach you will have most of the jobs losses happening outside Canberra, not inside Canberra."
