CONFUSING TESTIMONY FROM A TOP POLICE OFFICIAL IN THE SECOND DAY OF A BAIL HEARING FOR OLYMPIC RUNNER OSCAR PISTORIUS.
PROSECUTORS SAY THEY HAVE A WITNESS WHO CAN TESTIFY TO HEARING NON-STOP SHOUTING BEFORE PISTORIUS' GIRLFRIEND, REEVA STEENKAMP, WAS FATALLY SHOT ON VALENTINE'S DAY.
SOUNDBITE: Arnold Pistorius, Oscar's uncle: "He's not a violent person, he's a peacemaker. He's always been a peacemaker and that's his nature. He looks tough and he looks like the superstar and holds himself in the public domain but he is actually a very, very kind, soft person."
AT FIRST... HILTON BOTHA (BOH-TAH)... THE DETECTIVE LEADING THE INVESTIGATION... SAID UNDER CROSS EXAMINATION THAT THE PERSON WHO OVERHEARD THE ARGUMENT WAS IN A HOUSE 600 YARDS AWAY...
WHEN HE WAS QUESTIONED AGAIN... BOTHA (BOH-TAH) ACKNOWLEDGED THAT HE MISJUDGED THE DISTANCE OF THE HOUSE AND THE WITNESS WAS ACTUALLY MUCH CLOSER.
SOUNDBITE: Ferdi Schuster, a friend of Reeva Steenkamp: "Obviously I am on Reeva's side, but only God can judge and I think everybody deserves a fair chance. Whether he gets bail or not is up to the justice system, but I don't think personally he deserves it."
PISTORIUS SAID IN AN AFFADAVIT READ IN COURT ON TUESDAY THAT HE GRABBED HIS GUN AFTER HEARING WHAT HE THOUGHT WAS A BURGLAR INSIDE THE HOUSE.
SOUNDBITE: Arnold Pistorius, Oscar's uncle: "He is in extreme shock and so he is grieving and I don't expect him to get over it even soon and so he is still in an emotionally tough time."
WEDNESDAY'S TESTIMONY RAISED EVEN MORE EYEBROWS WHEN THE DISCUSSION TURNED TO SYRINGES AND ALLEGED DRUGS FOUND IN THE ATHLETE'S BEDROOM.
BOTHA (BOH-TAH) INITIALLY REFERRED TO THE DRUGS AS STEROIDS... BUT THE PROSECUTOR QUICKLY JUMPED IN, NOTING THAT IS WAS ACTUALLY TESTOSTERONE. THE NATIONAL PROSECUTION AGENCY LATER SAID THE SUBSTANCE HAS YET TO BE IDENTIFIED.
PISTORIUS, THE FIRST PARALYMPIAN RUNNER TO COMPETE AT THE OLYMPICS, IS CHARGED WITH PREMEDITATED MURDER.
