Music is still in Peter Garrett's blood

Federal Education Minister Peter Garrett says he's never lost his love for music and won't rule out having another go if the opportunity arises.

The former Midnight Oil frontman and Kingsford Smith MP was at the Queensland Academy of Creative Industries in Brisbane to launch a new government schools program on Wednesday.

When asked if he'd consider a return to the iconic Aussie rock group if he was unsuccessful in retaining the seat he's held for almost a decade in the September election, Mr Garrett said he didn't answer hypothetical questions.

But he wouldn't completely rule out a return to the creative arts sometime in the future.

"I'll continue what I'm doing now, I relish the opportunities that I have as education minister," Mr Garrett told reporters.

"But you know what, I've never lost my love of music and if the circumstances turn up either now or in the future to have a go, then watch this space."
