Acciona dumps wind farm plan

Renewable energy company Acciona has withdrawn a plan for a wind farm in the south-east of South Australia.

After several years of investigation, it said it had decided a wind farm near Allendale East, south of Mount Gambier, would not be commercially viable.

Grant District Council Mayor Richard Sage said legislative changes and community pressure could have been factors in the withdrawal.

He said a wind farm would have brought both positives and negatives for the south-east.

"It would have been good as far as creating some employment for the short period, but my feeling with wind farms is still the same as it's always been, some love them and some hate them but in this case we've maintained our pristine look of the area," he said.
