ANGRY RESIDENTS DEMANDED GOVERNMENT PROTECTION FROM ATTACKS AGAINST SHIITE MUSLIMS SUNDAY.......ONE DAY AFTER A BOMB IN A MARKET IN A SHIITE NEIGHBORHOOD IN SOUTHWESTERN PAKISTAN KILLED MORE THAN 80 PEOPLE.

MORE THAN 160 PEOPLE WERE WOUNDED IN SATURDAY'S BLAST.

THE CARNAGE HAS UNDERLINED THE PRECARIOUS SITUATION FOR SHIITES LIVING IN A MAJORITY SUNNI COUNTRY....WHERE MANY EXTREMIST GROUPS DON'T CONDIDER THE SHIITES REAL MUSLIMS.

IN KARACHI SUNDAY.....ANGRY PROTESTERS SET FIRE TO THREE VEHICLES AS HUNDREDS GATHERED IN THE CITY CENTER TO RESPOND TO SATURDAY'S SECTARIAN ATTACK.

HUNDREDS ALSO GATHERED IN PAKISTAN'S CAPITAL....ISLAMABAD.....AND MARCHED TOWARD THE PRESIDENTIAL PALACE TO PROTEST ATTACKS TARGETING SHIITE NEIGHBORHOODS.

A SUNNI EXTREMIST GROUP HAS CLAIMED RESPONSIBILITY FOR SATURDAY'S ATTACK.

SUNDAY -- THE GOVERNOR OF THE PROVINCE WHERE THE ATTACK TOOK PLACE SAID THE BOMBING WAS THE RESULT OF A SECURITY FAILURE.

HE SAID SECURITY OFFICIALS ARE TOO SCARED OF RETRIBUTION BY EXTREMISTS TO DO THEIR JOB.
