A 33-year-old man has pleaded guilty to tying up a woman in Perth and setting her on fire.

Anto Prawira Bintan had been due to stand trial on a charge of attempting to murder the 29-year-old who was found at her Cannington home in December 2011.

He tied the woman's hands and feet and placed her on her bed.

Bintan also forcibly injected her with a sedative before setting her on fire.

The woman suffered severe burns to more than half her body.

Bintan then stole cash, credit cards and the woman's car and fled the scene.

He was arrested about a week later.

Today, just before a jury was to be empanelled, he pleaded guilty to the charges against him.

Bintan sobbed in the dock after admitting the offences.

The woman was not in court for today's hearing.

Bintan has been remanded in custody and will face a sentencing hearing in the Supreme Court in April.
