Tasmania's best barista was crowned at the state championships in Hobart yesterday.

Will Priestly successfully defended his title to claim back-to-back wins.

Ten of the state's best competed in categories including latte art, barista and cup tasting.

After a cup of his own coffee, Mr Priestley calmed his nerves to claim victory and a chance to represent the state at the national championships in Melbourne next month.

"Everyone kind of believes in different things in coffee. I like chasing the flavours of processing methods," he said.

"It does give you a big of a justification that you're on the right path. As well as it's a chance to represent your country, which isn't something that everyone has the chance to do. It'll be an honour."
