Tasmania's Chief Fire Officer is confident authorities are well prepared on a day of total fire ban in the south.
Strong winds and high temperatures are expected today.
The fire danger rating is very high for the Lower Midlands, the Derwent Valley and the Coal River Valley today.
Chief Fire Officer Mike Brown says all brigades have been notified about worsening conditions.
"We have stood up our incident management teams in our regional fire operation centres, plus we have additional equipment, aircraft and firefighters on standby for strike team response," he said.
He says a huge amount of work has been going on to contain the Molesworth fire, north west of Hobart.
"We know that if we got really bad weather it has some potential to be a threat to the Hobart suburbs."
The total fire ban is in place until midnight.
