Boe, Domracheva win mass start races at worlds
NOVE MESTO, Czech Republic (
AP) — Tarjei Boe of Norway and
Darya Domracheva of Belarus won mass start races in the final events at the biathlon world championships on Sunday.
Boe shot clean to cross the finish line of the 15-kilometer men's race in 36 minutes, 15. 8 seconds to capture his third gold medal at the championships, adding to wins in men's and mixed relays.
Anton Shipulin of Russian overcame a penalty lap to claim silver, 3.7 seconds behind.
Emil Hegle Svendsen of Norway missed one target to finish 7.4 seconds back for bronze, adding to his four golds at the worlds.
Norway dominated the races in the Czech resort of Nove Mesto with a total of eight victories out of 11 men's and women's competitions.
Domracheva missed two targets but hit the front in the middle of the women's race and cruised to victory, completing the 12.5-kilometer course in 35 minutes, 54.5 seconds for her second career gold medal at the worlds.
Heavy favorite Tora Berger of Norway also missed twice to finish 8.7 seconds behind for her second silver at the championships, along with her four golds at the worlds this year.
Monika Hojnisz of Poland took bronze, trailing Domracheva by 27.6 seconds.
