NRC: Workers' error caused shutdown of NY reactor

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) — Federal regulators say an error by maintenance workers caused this week's shutdown of a reactor at Entergy Corp.'s Indian Point nuclear plant north of New York City.
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission says workers left valves open that drained water from a tank at the plant in Buchanan. That caused the shutdown of two pumps that send water to a steam generator. Control room operators then shut down the reactor Wednesday afternoon.
There was no release of radioactivity.
The NRC says the incident will be considered in Indian Point's safety performance review.
Indian Point's owner, Entergy Nuclear, says the reactor should be back online this weekend. A second reactor at the plant was unaffected.
Entergy is seeking 20-year license extensions for both reactors.
