The King Island community is a step closer to deciding whether to support a proposed $2 billion wind farm.

Community members, including farmers and tourism representatives as-well-as the Tasmania Wind Consultative Committee recently visited the Musselroe Wind Farm in the state's north-east.

Chairman John Brewster said it was a great chance to get perspective on the potential impact of the 200 turbine project that has been proposed for King island.

"Certainly a turbine by itself is an elegant looking structure," he said.

"I think most people would agree with that. We're looking at 200. We're looking at the size of our island. Basically it's very early days yet and people came away more informed."

Hydro Tasmania hopes to know by next month whether the project will go ahead.
