Mr Bleijie says there is also likely to be changes to remove liquor licensing rules for school functions and community groups.

Residents get say on Gasfields Commission powers

Residents and groups in Toowoomba on Queensland's Darling Downs will have their say on the proposed powers of the Gasfields Commission at a hearing in the city today.

The Queensland Government's State Development, Infrastructure and Industry Committee is holding a public hearing as part of its inquiry into the Gasfields Commission Bill.

The bill sets out the commission's powers and responsibilities.

Committee chairman David Gibson says there were fewer submissions than expected.

"I must say I was surprised that we didn't receive the volume [of] submissions that perhaps would have been expected on this potentially contentious issue, but we did receive them from a broad range of community groups," he said.

"Friends of Felton put in a submission, as did regional councils, the Queensland Conservation Council put in a submission, as did peak bodies for the onshore gas industry."

Mr Gibson says stakeholders raised a number of issues about the commission.

"There was discussion about what ... [their] particular responsibilities should involve and how they can deal with the issue of confidentially," he said.

"That was raised by quite a few submitters.

"People being concerned about what information they may provide to the commission and whether the commission ... or how the commission may keep that information confidential."
