Mr Bleijie says there is also likely to be changes to remove liquor licensing rules for school functions and community groups.

Dumped tyres create environmental worries

A group is worried about damage to local water catchments caused by thousands of dumped tyres near the Mary River in south-east Queensland.

The Queensland Government is planning to collect about 5,000 tyres dumped on a property it owns near the Mary River in the next month.

About 1,000 tyres are estimated to have washed into Yabba Creek and possibly the Mary River in recent flooding.

Mary River Catchment Coordination Committee chairman Ian Mackay is disappointed the Government did not remove the tyres when they were found months ago.

He is worried about environmental damage.

"Certainly where they land in stagnant pools they are definitely associated with some pretty nasty looking water qualities," he said.

"The other effect of course is big tyres rolling down the creek in floods, they are probably more robust than just debris and that just causes more damage."
