1. SOUNDBITE (English) Common/Recording Artist, on his cold remedies:

"I know, see I am one of those natural guys. I like a lot of the natural remedies so I am either going to the earth bar, this place called Earth Bar a holistic spot and getting a wellness shot. That's a combination of garlic, cayenne pepper and you drink that sometimes and then you start taking these natural cold tablets you can take and I drink a lot of tea and just rest."

2. SOUNDBITE (English) Jimmy Bennett/Actor, on his cold remedies:

"I sit in bed and I cover myself in tampons, it soaks it right up, I don't know why. (Reporter: Tampons seem to be the cure for a lot of things. Hang-overs too?) Yes."

3. SOUNDBITE (English) Wayne Brady/Actor, on his cold remedies:

"My home remedy? I go to Jerry's Deli and get chicken soup because to me, and I've had friends call it Jewish penicillin and maybe it's in my head but it completely cuts the duration of that cold or flu in half and I just guzzle it. That just helps me. (Now you deserve free soup.) Yeah, free Jerry's. Where is Jerry? I never met Jerry. Jerry give me some soup. Can a brother have soup? And when I was younger my mom's way of telling me was, because my mom ids from the Virgin Islands and very strict and she said, 'When? You're not sick.' Oh you're right momma, done. So she would help me cure it like that. (Reporter: Just with those words.) Yeah, you're not sick. So it's done."

HOW STARS FIGHT THE COLD

When cold and flu season hits, no one is one hundred percent immune to it. Not even Hollywood stars. They get sick, just like the rest of us.

The common cold and flu are caused by different viruses but can have some similar symptoms, making them tough to tell apart. In general, the flu is worse and symptoms are more intense.

A few celebrities who attended the "Movie 43" premiere in Los Angeles were asked about their home remedies for fighting a cold.

Actor and rapper Common prefers to attack the virus without prescription drugs.

"I know, see I am one of those natural guys," said Common. "I like a lot of the natural remedies so I am either going to the earth bar, this place called Earth Bar a holistic spot and getting a wellness shot. That's a combination of garlic, cayenne pepper and you drink that sometimes and then you start taking these natural cold tablets you can take and I drink a lot of tea and just rest."

Actor and TV host Wayne Brady loads up on soup from his favorite deli.

"I go to Jerry's Deli and get chicken soup because to me, and I've had friends call it Jewish penicillin and maybe it's in my head but it completely cuts the duration of that cold or flu in half and I just guzzle it," said Brady. "That just helps me...

To avoid colds and flu, wash your hands with warm water and soap after you've been out in public or around sick people. Don't share cups or utensils. And get a flu vaccination -- officials say it's not too late, even in places where flu is raging.

People with colds or mild cases of the flu should get plenty of rest and fluids. Those with severe symptoms, such as a high fever or difficulty breathing, should see a doctor and may be prescribed antiviral drugs or other medications. Children should not be given aspirin without a doctor's approval.
