Costly fight over wiring eaten by birds

A company that installed lighting at Noarlunga Oval two years ago is suing South Adelaide Football Club for failing to pay for required repairs.

WKC Energy launched legal action in Adelaide Magistrates Court seeking to recover more than $5,000 for light repairs and about $500 in legal costs.

In court documents, the football club said WKC installed the lights in February 2011 but had to return to make repairs a year later after birds chewed through wiring left exposed during the initial work.

The club said it claimed the cost of damage from its insurer and paid more than half the $14,000 WKC charged for repair work.

It argued it should not have to pay the rest because the repairs were needed only due to the electrical company's negligence.

The case is listed for a directions hearing next month.
