The State Government says plans are in place to clean up about 5,000 tyres dumped on a property it owns near the Mary River in Queensland's south-east.
An Imbil kayak tour operator says flooding a fortnight ago has washed about 1,000 tyres into Yabba Creek and probably also into the Mary River.
Ian Harling says environmental damage could have been avoided if the Government had acted on requests to clean up the mess.
The Department of State Development, Infrastructure and Planning says a contractor will start removing the tyres next week and there will be a community clean-up day next month.
