Chinese tourist dies reef snorkelling

Authorities are investigating the death of a tourist on the Great Barrier Reef off Cairns, in far north Queensland, on Tuesday.

It is believed the Chinese woman, aged 19 or 20, suffered health complications while snorkelling at Moore Reef about 60 kilometres south-east of Cairns.

Paramedics performed CPR on her and flew her to the Cairns Base Hospital but she could not be revived.

Police say a post-mortem examination will be conducted on the woman's body.
