The Canberra Liberals are calling for an effective car parking plan for Manuka Oval when it hosts international sporting events.
During the recent one day cricket matches some spectators were booked for parking illegally near the event.
Liberals sports spokesman Steve Doszpot says extra parking spots need to be found.
"The government's got to have the will to realise that there is a problem and they need different solutions than just the mantra about bringing buses in," he said.
"That is part of the solution, that's not the total solution."
But Sports Minister Andrew Barr has rejected claims of inadequate parking.
Mr Barr says almost all the patrons at recent events either found a legal car park or used the buses.
"Manuka is not a venue that you can leave home five minutes before the match and anticipate getting a carpark five metres from the front gate," he said.
"Like every other major sporting venue in the country and the world, the preference for people accessing those venues is through public transport, that's why we made it free."
