Prime Minister Julia Gillard will next week unveil the next stage in the government's plan to use innovation to boost jobs.
Ms Gillard told a NICTA Techfest forum in Canberra on Wednesday Australia relied on innovation for productivity and she would make a "major statement" on the issue in the coming week.
"Studies show that in advanced countries like Australia, more than half of all growth in productivity comes from innovation," she said.
"We know that growing productivity is the best way to create and support jobs for the long-term."
